CATHERINE CROPPER

CATHERINE CROPPER departed this life peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2014 in Wattsville, Virginia.

Catherine was born on August 19, 1926 to the late Sewell and Lula Savage. She received her education in the Accomack County school system.

She was married to the late Clinton Cropper and of this union two children were born. She moved to Philadelphia in the early 1950’s to pursue a better life for her family and was the proud caretaker of the Moore family of Philadelphia, for over 30 years. Later in life she retired from the Moore family and returned to Wattsville, Va.

Catherine was an outstanding cook, loved to entertain and enjoyed the finer things in life. She was especially fond of gardening and baking. She was most famous for her sweet potato pies and was also well-known for her fashion sense; always coordinating her colorful suits, purses and hats. She was a long-time member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the hospitality committee and enjoyed her time in the church’s kitchen, preparing foods and decorating for various events at the church.

Catherine was preceded in death by three brothers; Randolph, Ira Lee, and Thomas (Beverly) Savage and two sisters, Samuetta (Bell) Savage and Eileen English (Catherine’s twin).

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters; Cynthia Ahmed of Philadelphia, PA and Dolly Wharton of Wattsville, VA, two grandchildren; Lanette Swopes and Kenric Summerville and one great-grandchild, Kamiya Summerville, all of Philadelphia, PA, two sisters; Velma Savage of Philadelphia, PA and Doretha Wilcox of Wattsville, VA; two son-in-laws; Eid Ahmed of Philadelphia, Pa and Daniel Wharton of Wattsville, VA. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
