MALLIE CARTER DRUMMOND

At the age of 99, during the early morning hours of September 11, 2012 surrounded by family, our heavenly Father called home his angel, Mrs. Mallie Carter Drummond. Born September 15, 1912, Mallie was one of eight children born to the late Thomas & Julia Turner. Her siblings, all whom preceded her in death were: Annie Mae (Turner) Kellam, Bernice Turner, and George Turner, Maggie (Turner) Fletcher, Rose (Turner) Wise, James Turner, & Estelle (Stella) Turner. In January 1932, Mallie was joined in marriage to the late Lorenzo Roosevelt Drummond and from that 33 year union there were born five children: Arlene (Drummond) Kess, Lorenzo Roosevelt Drummond, Jr., and Roscoe Drummond, Julia (Drummond) Collins, & Forrest Drummond. Sadly, four of Mallie’s children preceded her in death. At an early age, Mallie accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She was a warrior who truly loved God. She lived her life by faith; always trusting and believing in the word of The Lord to sustain her through life’s trials and tribulations. No matter how tough times seemed, she would always manage to say, “The Lord will provide.” Her kind and gentle spirit touched many hearts, and she saw goodness in everyone around her. A selfless and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend who never hesitated to step up in the time of need for loved ones to provide support and scriptural words of encouragement to see them through difficult times, often times placing their needs above her own. She was an active member of Mt. Zion Holiness Church Onancock (Bayside), VA where she sang in the choir, and participated and supported numerous church activities and events. For many years, Mallie was employed by Van Kestern Farms as an agriculture farm laborer, and upon her retirement her many joys included her family, whom she cherished, gardening, reading, the outdoors, watching her favorite game shows (The Price Is Right and Family Feud), and she especially enjoyed the challenge associated with word finds and assembling jig-saw puzzles. A sharp dresser, she always looked very put together and would light up any room when she walked in. To celebrate her life, memory, & legacy are her loving daughter, Julia Collins of Onancock, VA; two nieces, Blanche Dix (Onancock, VA), & Margaret Poole (Salisbury, MD); two nephews, Fleetwood Wise, & James Alfred Wise, both of Baltimore, MD; a son-in-law, Roland Kess Sr, a daughter-in-law, Lacy Drummond, both of Baltimore, MD; and numerous cousins. Mallie was also blessed with 16 grandchildren, 23 great- grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, several great nieces & nephews and many friends who will miss her nurturing and loving spirit. Mallie was a very caring, generous, hospitable and genuine person who made all those around her feel special.
