LUEVESTHA NORTHAM

Mrs. Luevestha Hope Northam was born to the late James and Luevelva Hope in Accomack County, VA. She made her peaceful transition from this life to a better life on Thursday, January 1, 2015 around 4 pm at Hartley Hall Nursing Home in Pocomoke City, MD. Her life’s journey began 97 years and a little over four months ago when she was born on August 14, 1917. Her Christian walk with the Lord began at an early age at Metompkin Baptist Church in Parksley, VA. Lou, as she was affectionately known, loved the church even as a child and served it faithfully in several capacities for nearly all of her life. Mrs. Northam sought a better life so she relocated to New York City, where she worked as a domestic worker. She cooked also at the Parksley Nursing Home for many years upon her return to the Eastern Shore.

Mrs. Northam served diligently at Metompkin Baptist Church, as a faithful member for many years; ministering in many capacities such as Deaconess, Choir member and Sunday School. Her deepest desire was to always serve in some capacity where she could be used by the Holy Spirit to draw others to the Lord. Known as a worker in and out of the church, Mrs. Northam understood clearly a “Charge to keep she had, and a God to glorify”. This she faithfully did until God called her home. Nearly all her adult life could be summed up in these words — “The just shall live by faith.” That she did!

Mrs. Northam was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Levi Northam; seven siblings and four brother-in-laws.

Left to cherish her precious memories are her sisters: Mrs. Lince Brown, and Mrs. Eula Beckett of Salisbury, MD, brother; Mr. Vernon Hope (Recie) of Pocomoke City, MD, a stepdaughter and her husband Jean and James Strand; two step grandchildren, Mrs. Yvonne Pennell and husband Wade; and Ronnie and Stella Northam along with many other loving relatives and friends, including her Metompkin Church family and the staff at Hartley Hall Nursing Home in Pocomoke City, MD.
