MARGARET ANN DUFFY DRUMMOND

MARGARET ANN DUFFY DRUMMOND entered into the eternal presence of the Lord at her residence in Accomac, Virginia, on Friday morning, January 24, 2014, with her baby sister, Rev. Mary Washington holding her hand. Margaret was born in Accomack County on May 25, 1936 to the late James H. and Sable Elizabeth Duffy Daughtry and the late Albert "Boogie" Riley. She was reared by her late uncle and aunt, Harold and Annie Dickerson.

She attended the public school in Accomack County. Margaret saw the need for a leader and Savior in her life; so, she joined Macedonia A.M.E. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. H. L. Lee. She enjoyed singing on the choir. Her Aunt Annie was a very strict guardian. Her rule was "if you go out on Saturday night, then no questions asked -- church on Sunday mornig."

Margaret met, dated, and married the "King" of her life, Preston Edward Drummond, on April 30, 1936 in Snow Hill, Maryland. She remained faithful, and even after 50 years of marriage, she would look at him with a twinkle in her eye. It was not done if "Buns" didn't do it, and if "Buns" said it, then it was true.

She was predeceased in death not only by her parents, but also by her brother, James "Detroit" Duffy, two sisters, Pearl and Emma Frances Duffy Matthews, and two brothers-in-law Frank Matthews, Jr. and Julian Washington, Jr.

Margaret Ann was employed by P & L, Golden Pride, Buddy Boys, and Holly Farms/Tyson Foods until health problems caused early disability retirement. She was a quiet, humble lady who enjoyed having company and would name those she expected to visit and had not. She loved people, and often proudly told her baby sister, "I have never hurt or did anyone wrong."

She enjoyed staying on the phone for hours with her sisters, family, and friends. Her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews were her heart. She lit up when hearing their voices or seeing their faces. Also, she enjoyed cooking, and if you needed a menu, she could give it to you, without a recipe in front of her.

Her favorite pastime was listening to "Leen C" Gospel Request Time with Anetia Finney. Her nephew, Quinton, often talked about going to her home and finding her listening to the radio. Her favorite gospel hymn was "Rough Side of the Mountain."

Left to cherish fondest memories are her husband, Preston Drummond; a sister, Rev. Mary D. Washington; a heaven sent sister, Minister Evelyn Sample (Jake); three nieces, Alesia Matthews, Natasha Washington-Mason, and Marketea Bannister; three nephews, Julian Washington III (Carrie), Quinton Washington (Barbara), and Richard C. Upshur III; a step-daughter, Dorothy Giddens; two step-sons, Edward and Dwayne Mason; six sisters-in-law, Nellie Drummond, Oneida Strong, Bertha Giddens, Hortense Smith (Herbert), Dorothy Washington (George), and Peggy Bell (John); and a host of cousins and friends.
