GLADYS MAE WISE

Gladys Mae Wise of Pungoteague, VA, affectionately known to most as "Mom and Granny", was born Sep 13, 1922 to the late Mary Bailey and William Floyd. She departed this life at Cadia Renaissance Nursing Home in Long Neck, Delaware on Friday, Nov 19 at 12:36 p.m. Gladys's loving son, Floyd, gave his mother her last sip of juice as she opened her eyse wide and closed them slowly as she went home to be with the Lord.

She attended Pungoteague Elementary School as a child and moved to Delaware in her late 40s to continue to raise her family and make a life for herself. Prior to her retirement, she worked at Paramount Poultry Plant for 17 years. After retirement, she worked a private duty case as an aide for several years until the passing of her client.

Gladys was known for her famous rice pudding and dumplings from scratch (just to name a few!) She started the family tradition of coming together on Sundays for dinner, in which her legacy still has been carried on for over 40 years. She loved her family and her dear friend, Dorothy Stewart. Gladys had a green thumb like no other and had a great eye for a bargain at yard sales. She showed her family unconditional love and made all of us feel like we were her favorite. Her favorite saying was "If the Lord is willing". She was truly a wise woman with so much wisdom that being around her was infectious. Gladys' favorite pasttime was sitting in her rocking chair and peeping out the window while doing crossword puzzles and watching stories.

Left to cherish loving memories are her 10 children: Dorothy Floyd (Melvin) of Dover, DE; Lily Floyd of Millsboro, DE; Frances Chandler of Chesterfiled, VA; Gladys Sampson (Layfield); Barbara Floyd; Sharon Floyd; Tyrone Floyd; Shirley Wise of Millsboro, DE; Larry Floyd (Valerie) of Harbeson, DE; and Sylvia Wise of Seaford, DE. Alongside her children, she will be greatly missed by her 79 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. In addition to her father and mother, Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, John Wise; four children, James (June) Floyd, John (Sonny) Wise Jr., Peggy Floyd, and William Floyd; two half brothers, Robert King and Otha Floyd; and grandson, Steven R. Floyd, Sr.
