WILBERT LEE NEDAB

Wilbert Lee Nedab, passed away during the night at the age of 89 on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 after a short stay in Hospice care at Chesapeake Place, Chesapeake, VA. Wilbert was born February 23, 1932 in Daugherty, VA and was the youngest son of Floyd Elmer Nedab and Willie Anna Savage Nedab.

He was affectionately known as “Peter” by most everyone outside of his immediate family. Most folk would only know who you were speaking about when you called him “Peter Nedab”. Wilbert was educated at Daugherty Elementary School. He received his early religious training at St. Luke’s AME Church in Daughtery, VA and married Theresa “Emily” Pettit (d. 1979) on March 18, 1951.

Wilbert left the Eastern Shore at a young age with his wife, Emily and their three young children. the family first relocated to East Orange, NJ and later made their home in Queens, NY where they would welcome their fourth child. Wilbert began what would be a life long trucking career with Challenger Steel in Brooklyn, NY. He was an employee there until 1971. That year he returned to the Eastern Shore and became an independent trucker, and opened Nedab’s Texaco at the Four Corners Plaza, in Onley, VA with his son. In 1981 Nedab’s Texaco closed for good and he returned to the open road, as an independent owner operator. Wilbert had a love for traveling the highways and rather for work or at leisure, he visited much of the United States. Wilbert continued driving professionally until finally retiring in 2003. He settled down in Norfolk, VA where he resided until moving to Chesapeake, VA in late 2020.

Wilbert was preceded in death by his brother, Rufus, (“Rudy”), grandson, Adonitti Nedab and his beloved cousin William Bailey.

He leaves to cherish his memory his four children, Alfred “Darrell” Nedab of Chesapeake, VA, Jacqueline Nedab, Monica Nedab and Janessa Nedab Holland of Long Island, NY; five grandchildren, Travas Holland, Tiffany Nedab, Tynika “Emily” Pinter, Brian Nedab and Dallas Holland; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan, Ethan, McKade, Caiden, Jaylee, Asher and Layla; one great-great-granddaughter, Nova, and one brother Rev. Floyd Nedab Jr. Portsmouth, VA, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and many friends.
