SYLVESTER ABNEY

Sylvester Abney, son of the late Mary Emma Abney and Warner Baynes was born August 1, 1951 in Melfa, VA. He took his wings and went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning, February 22, 2021 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, in Onancock, VA.

Sylvester attended and graduated from Mary N. Smith High School in 1969. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served for 10 years as a Fuel Systems Technician. Upon leaving the Air Force, Sylvester work at Lockheed Martin.

“Bojack” as he was affectionately called by family and friends drove truck for 20 years, thus, becoming a “self-proclaimed legend of the truck driving circuit”! He loved to talk and was very straight forward in his dealings with the people in which he encountered and you did not have to guess what he was thinking because he would gladly let you know!

Left to cherish Sylvester’s memories are his wife of 26 years, Renee, daughter, Phoebe Parker (Shacory), grandson, Peyton of Newport News, VA; sisters: Patricia Abney of Brooklyn, NY, and Violet Garrison of Dagsboro, DE; brothers, Howard Abney (Rebecca) of Frisco, TX and Anthony Abney (Nyerera) of Baltimore, MD; uncle, Alvin Abney (Kathryn) of Forest Park, GA; nieces, Natasha Fabiano (Anthony) of NY, and Rajai Robinson (Andre) of Pocomoke City, MD; nephews, Brandon Garrison and Steve Abney of DE, Jamahl Brickhouse (Rebecca) of Salisbury, MD, Rev. Vincent West (Dora) of Onancock, VA, and Michael West of NJ; mother-in-law, Alston Finney of Parksley, VA; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Kelley of Pocomoke City, MD, a host of great nieces and nephews, relatives and special friend that he called his son, Rashawn Brown of Accomac, VA.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Delsie Floyd West.
