GLADYS GUNTER

Gladys M. Bagwell Gunter was born on November 12, 1922 in Accomack County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Charlie B. Bagwell and Viola Roberts Bagwell. Gladys lived and loved life and her family until she was called home Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Shore Health & rehabilitation Center in Parksley, Virginia.

Gladys attended Accomack County Public Schools. She worked at Whispering Pines Hotel for several years before entering wedlock to William Gunter on July 23, 1951. Shortly after, the couple's journey led them North where they made their home in Lakewood, New Jersey until William's untimely death.

Gladys worked many years at Princeton Avenue School in the culinary department as a cook until her retirement when she returned to her stomping grounds, Bagwell Lane in Accomac, Virginia. Gladys enjoyed cooking fried chicken and corn pudding for her family. Gladys would often become the life of the party when she would cut a rug and dance to the old sounds of Motown.

She is preceded in death by: husband, William Gunter; father, Charlie B. Bagwell; mother, Viola (Roberts) Bagwell; brothers, Rosco, Floyd, George, and Ernest; sisters, Doris Ann, Thelma, and Oneita.

She leaves to cherish her memory: sisters, Arnetta Custis of Tasley, Virginia and Betty Collins of Accomac, Virginia; brothers, Nathaniel (Delores) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Donald (Alberta) of Paterson, New Jersey; sister-in-law, Patricia Bagwell of Jackson, New Jersey; brother-in-law, Zollie Branch of Paterson, New Jersey; goddaughter, Mary Nelson of Salisbury, Maryland; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins; and devoted best friend, Roberta Oliver.
