MABLE ELIZABETH WEST WHITE

And there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, no crying. Revelation 21:4 MABLE ELIZABETH WEST WHITE, wife of the late Sam White and daughter of the late Hattie West was born on May 8, 1919 in Accomac, VA. She departed this life on April 12, 2011 at Riverside Shore Life Care. Ma, Gramma, Aunt Mable, and Miss Mable, as she was affectionately called, was educated in the Accomack County Public School system. Mable was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Sam White in March of 1933. She confessed her belief in Christ and joined Macedonia AME Church in Accomac, VA, and after marriage she joined Metompkin Baptist Church under the late Rev. J.M. Douglas and Rev. Ricardo Poulson, Sr. She was a faithful member until her health started to decline. While at Metompkin, Mable was a member of the Missionary Circle, Half Century Club, Deaconess Board, Civic and Charity Club and Senior and Combined Choirs. Mable enjoyed singing for the Lord. Her favorite songs were: “There’s a Bright Side Somewhere” and “I Want to Be Ready”. She was employed with Parksley Apparel (R & G Shirt Factory) for over 30 years until the factory closed. Later she was employed at the Law office Custis, Dix and Lewis. She was also well known throughout the community, work place, and church. She had a good sense of humor and spoke what was on her mind and when you were around her there was never a dull moment because she would have you laughing. She enjoyed cooking especially for family gatherings, baking cakes, pies, and her signature cinnamon buns, all from scratch. Mable is preceded in death by her husband Sam White, mother Hattie West, son Samuel “Bobby” White, daughter Frances Portier, brother Daniel West and nephew Ronnie Beckett. She leaves to cherish her memories: a sister, Julia Beckett (Accomac, VA), grandson Anthony Godfrey (Richmond, VA) granddaughter Stacey West (Nelsonia, VA), three great grandchildren; Blake Anthony Godfrey (Hopewell, VA), Michael and Shadonna Sample (Nelsonia, VA), God-daughter, Josephine W. Fosque (Parksley, VA), daughter-in-law Carolyn White (Parksely, VA), two sisters-in-law, Tabathia Bagwell and Mary Ellen White, both of Parksley, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, very dear friends and long time neighbors. Her dining-out friends were Mary Savage, Irene Kinsey and Mary Ann Belen.
