WILLIAM WHARTON

William Lee Wharton, affectionately known as Bill, Pop-Pop, Uncle Bill, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather was born April 30, 1931 to the late Roger and Ethel Wharton. He entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 23, 2018.

Bill attended the public schools of Accomack County. At a young age he joined Jerusalem Baptist Church and served faithfully on many auxiliaries such as chairman of the Deacon Board, Trustee, Superintendent of Sunday School and Male Choir. He also served in the Army and was a USDA poultry inspector until retirement. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Phyllis Milbourne. They shared 60 years of marital bliss.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Ethel Wharton; brothers, Estee, Milton, George and Emory; sisters, Edith, Winnie, Eunice, Lina and Phyllis.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: devoted wife Phyllis; 3 children, Cephas (Beverly) of Burlington, NJ, Cynthia Wharton Douglas and Gerald (Debbie) Wharton, both of Temperanceville, VA; 8 grandchildren, Cephas, Jr (Courtney), Kecia, Brandon, Gerald, Jr (Latoya), Tiffany, Gerrick, Clopell and Abron; 8 great-grandchildren: Aaron, Nastassja, Nyree, Alaura, Sean, Elenor, Forrez and Abron, Jr; 1 great-great-grandchild, Vanessa; 1 brother, Roland; 1 sister, Doreatha Fant, both of Philadelphia, PA; 2 brother-in-laws, Stanford Justice and Donald (Catherine) Milbourne; 2 sister-in-laws, Justine (Larry) Holden; and Dora Wharton; a special niece, Stacey; a great-niece Tierra and great-great niece, Kailah, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
