LESTER ALLEN BROUGHTON

LESTER ALLEN BROUGHTON, beloved son of the late James I. and Hattie F. Broughton, was born on December 9, 1945 in Temperanceville, VA. He departed this life suddenly on Wednesday, February 7, 2018.

Lester received an education in the public schools of Accomack County, VA. He was converted, baptized and joined Jerusalem Baptist Church in Temperanceville, VA at a young age.

On April 4, 1969, Lester married Geraldine Brown and from this union 3 sons were born, Lester, Jr., Michael and Gary Broughton.

Lester was employed with the Eastern Shore Ambulance Company in Sanford, VA for several years. He also worked for Virginia Life Line Ambulance Service until his health began to fail.

During his spare time, he ran calls as a volunteer for Station 18 in Onley, VA and was a self employed plumber. He loved playing softball and fishing and never sat still as doing things for others gave him the greatest joy. Lester was a devoted and loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He will be sadly missed.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Doretha Tatum, Elouise Broughton, Barbara Ann Broughton and Darlene Dennis; one brother, James Broughton; and one son, Lester A. Broughton , Jr. Others left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Geraldine Broughton of Savageville, VA, two sons, Michael Broughton of Salisbury, MD, Gary Broughton of Kempsville, VA, three step-daughters, Ruthann Walker of Hampton, VA, Betty Jean Bailey of Horntown, VA and Latasha Matthews (Adrian) of Melfa, VA; one step-son, James Corbin of Horntown, VA; three sisters, Mary Nock of Modestown, VA, Louise Tatem (Vernon), of Perth Amboy, NJ, and Evangeline Hickman of Parksley, VA; one step-sister, Doris Pruitt (George) of Parksley, VA; one brother, Robert Broughton (Violet) of Seaford, DE; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren, a special niece and caretaker Latonya Broughton of Melfa, VA, special niece Desaretha Tatem, a host of other nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
