MILDRED SIMPKINS

MILDRED ELAINE FINNEY-SIMPKINS, daughter of the late Roland and Bertha Finney, was bornJanuary 27, 1935 in Accomac, Virginia. She entered into eternal rest on Sunday morning, July10, 2016 after a long illness.

At an early age Mildred professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Metompkin BaptistChurch and later on, with her parents, she joined Gospel Temple Baptist Church.

“Mit” as she was known by a host of family and friends, was educated and graduatedfrom the public schools of Accomack County.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to John T. Simpkins, Jr. and this union was blessedwith a son, Anton Michael Simpkins, who preceded her in death in 2015.

Mildred traveled extensively with her husband as he served in the military for over 20years. Whenever she had the opportunity during these years of travel, she would grace her homechurch by coming back to play the piano for their Communion services. Mildred had a loving,giving and kind spirit. She loved to make people laugh with her wit and humor.

Her beautiful and caring spirit will be cherished by her husband John, of 63 years, son,John, grand children Tonae and Hunter, daughter-in-law Shelley, one brother-in-law, MosesSimpkins of Norfolk, VA, 5 sisters-in-laws, Linda Simpkins of Accomac, VA, Florence ofBrooklyn, NY, Teresa Parker of Onancock, VA, Jackie Turner of Chesapeake, VA, AltheaThomas of Onancock, VA, and Sarah West of Bowie, MD, her care givers, Dorenda A. Starkesand Theolia Barnes and a host of other relatives and friends.
