MARY EVANS NELSON

MARY EVANS NELSON, daughter of the late Evelyn Briggs and Elton Vanlear Evans, was born August 24, 1945. She was educated in the schools of Federalsburg, MD and later moved to the Eastern Shore where she lived for over 43 years. Mary had a close friend, Edward Byrd who helped until her demise.

Mary’s work history included Nursing and Holly Farms. She was a woman who loved to cook and sing. Many years were spent with the “Stars of Wonder”, singing hymns such as “Tell the Angels”, “I learn how to live Holy”, and “Rest High in Glory’.

Later in life she joined Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Harvey Davis where she sang on the Mass Choir.

She was preceded in death by husband, Marston Nelson, daughter, Cathy, mother-in-law, Alberta Brittingham, and sister-in-law, Claster Anne Cameron.

Mary leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted friend, Edward Lee Bryd, one son Eugene Evans, two daughters, Sharon and Arillia Jenkins, of Dade City, FL., four brothers, Dorsey, Charles, Anthony and Sylvester Briggs, of Federalsburg, MD; two sisters, Carolyn Jones, Omegene Bolden, two step-daughters, Felicia Bryd (Eric), and Tamara Green (Clayton Fletcher), two sisters-in-laws, Sarah (Bruce) Baldwin of Philadelphia, PA, Juanita Stewart of Queens, NY, one brother-in-law, Willie Stewart of Bowling Green, KY, three god-children, Arnice Bailey, Richard Robins, Jr. and Ronracus Robins, devoted neighbors, Linda D. Godwin, Mary and James Pinkard, and the Scarborough family, several nieces, and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
