ALICE ONEDIA WEST-SAMPLE
ALICE ONEDIA WEST-SAMPLE, the beloved daughter of the late Howard and Annie Mae West was born on April 5, 1927 in Harborton, VA. She departed this life on March12, 2014 at Riverside Shore Rehab Center in Parksley, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dory R. Sample, Sr and one son, Jerry Sample.
Onedia was educated in the Accomack County Public schools. Although she was not an active member in church, her faith was anchored in the Lord.
“Nanny” as she was affectionately known, had a “witty” way of expressing herself. If she had a house big enough she would shelter her whole family there with her.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one special friend, Ernest Lee Snead, four children; Dory (JeNette) Sample, Jr. of Boston, VA, Marian (Obediah) Sample, Jr. of Harborton, VA, Dorice (Edmonia) Sample, Sr. of Melfa, VA, and Terry (Samuel) Garrison of Craddockville, VA; one daughter-in-law, Nellie Sample of Virginia Beach, VA; two brothers, William (Juanita) West of Dover, DE and John (Diane) West of Bear, DE; one sister, Margaret Lowther of Melfa, VA and twenty-four grandchildren. She helped to raise Vera, Jarrod and the late Eric Sample as her own, and a special great-grandson, “Kwame”, whom she called “Man”. Other family members include a host of great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
