BROOKES AMES, SR.

BROOKES AMES, SR. was born to the late George Ed and Rachel Mason Ames. He departed this life on Saturday, January 5, 2013 in his home, under the loving care of his wife, Julia Ames, of 63 years.

Deacon Ames was born in Melfa, Virginia on December 3, 1925. He was educated in the Accomac County Public Schools. He later moved to Parksley, Virginia, where he lived for the remainder of his life.

Deacon Brooks Ames accepted Christ at a very young age and was an ordained deacon and served in this office for over 50 years. He was one of the original members of Victory Pentecostal Church of Deliverance, in which his wife founded.

Deacon Ames enjoyed gospel music and talking about the Lord by telling others of His good works. His favorite hymns were “Sweet Honey in the Rock” and “Sending Up My Timber”. In the last few weeks, Deacon Ames spoke encouraging words to his family to go through with the Lord.

Brooks is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Gwendolyn; and his siblings, Glenwood, Elmer, Mason, Sr., Louise, Eleanor, and Nelson.

He is survived by his wife, Julia; eight children, Gloria, Brooks Jr., Juanita, Anthony, Miranda, Rachel, Julia Ann, and Alexander; 25 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
