ERNEST RUFUS FINNEY

ERNEST RUFUS FINNEY passed into eternal rest on Friday, July 1, 2016. He was born June 23, 1931 to the late Passy Ames Finney and John Finney in Accomack County Virginia. He is preceded in death by his brother, Leonell Finney; sister, Julia Johnson; sister, Mae Duren; sister, Dorothy V. Finney and brother, Oswald Boggs. Ernest attended the public schools of Accomack County and at an early age joined St. Paul A. M. E. in Pungoteague, VA. later in life he became a member of Gaskins Chapel A.M.E Church in Savageville, VA.

Ernest married Audrey Lee Garrison on May 2, 1953 and it was a marriage made in Heaven. To this union were born two children, Ernest and Vanessa. His work history included employment at a saw mill and Watson’s Furniture Store. From the he was a young man, he helped his father on the farm and it was this experience that later enable Ernest to become a successful full time farmer himself.

Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife, Audrey Finney of 63 years, one daughter, Vanessa (Reginald) Rivers of Weddington, NC, three sons, Ernest C. (Kimberly) Finney of Manhattan Beach, CA, Cornelius (Sharon) Carr of Philadelphia, PA. and Thomas “Butch” Knock, of Philadelphia, PA, one brother, John H. Finney, of Virginia Beach, VA, one brother-in-law, John Garrison, Amityville, NY; three sister-in-laws, Margaret Finney, Virginia Beach, Va. Amy Jarrett, Wheatly Heights, NY. and Dorothy Finney, Pennsylvania, Pa. faithful and devoted nephew, Rufus Drummond, Melfa, Va; a devoted friend and helper, Wayne Scarborough, Craddockville, Va. several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
